So basically, I'm a mom now! With every day that passes I feel more and more like this wasn't a fluke, that I actually do know a thing or two (those instincts, man, they are for real!) and that raising our son really will be an incredibly fulfilling endeavor.
What does that mean for my art? Boy, I'm still figuring that out. I don't have much extra time or energy these days, but I do have pockets when I can work on a project or two. The problem is that I have so many projects I want to work on, so many new stories I want to write, and comics I want to draw, and doodles I want to noodle with, that I end up feeling pretty overwhelmed. (This was a problem before I was a mom even, when I had basically all the time in the world to make art.)
I'm not really sure what 2016 will bring for me, creatively. This past holiday break I worked on two projects from start-to-finish, and both made me really happy. They were 1) our annual year-end zine and 2) an illustrated children's book that my husband wrote. (I will share both when the time is right.) Both of them were fairly spontaneous and highly collaborative, and neither one stressed me out for even a second. So, that's interesting. Maybe this will be the year for teamwork!
Whatever the year brings, I want to share it with you. I revamped my website so it can basically hold whatever drawings I make, and whatever comics I finish, and any other thoughts or in-progress show-and-tells on this here blog. Behind the scenes I plan to channel most of my art-energy toward finishing my next book, which is currently about 75% done. That one is really important to me, and I can't wait to release it!
That's about it, for now. Feel free to hit me up with any freelance jobs, or any fun ideas for collaboration, and meanwhile I'll be sitting here with my guys, figuring out this next chapter of life. That's what we're all doing right? More or less? Happy new year, dudes and dudettes. It's gonna be a good one :)
